Mixed Berry Banana Oatmeal Smoothie

I’m not always a smoothie person, but when I am, it’s because it’s summer. Stay thirsty!

I love a good smoothie when it’s hot outside. I think mostly because it doesn’t make the house hot. But also because they can be very filling and work well when you’re running out of the house in the morning.

Smoothies are a great healthy option, but they aren’t the only option. I like variety in my eats and how I get my nutrients in. So go ahead and have as many or as little smoothies as you like. My love for smoothies changes with the weather. To me, smoothies are like salads, they’re very versatile and maybe season specific. You can make a salad a million different ways (no I didn’t run the actual numbers). Same with a smoothie. it doesn’t have to be the same each time.

This mixed berry banana oatmeal smoothie has some many goodies in it.

With the berries and bananas, you get a good serving of fruit, yum!

The Greek yogurt gives you a hearty serving of protein.

The oatmeal and the berries give you those delicious smart carbs that your muscles love (and your soul).

Add in some nut butter, or for me, sunflower butter, and get some healthy fats to help you feel full for longer. I’ve just been getting into sunflower butter and really like this brand. It’s a work in progress for me being allergic to nuts and peanut butter. It kinda tastes like peanut butter and smells like it too. So it psyches me out. I have to remind myself that it’s sunflower seeds made in a peanut free facility.

It’s still light and refreshing, even with the sunflower butter.

Here’s the recipe to make yours! Don’t be afraid to add some veggies in (the power greens mix is my favorite)!

Mixed Berry Banana Oatmeal Smoothie is a quick breakfast for when you’re on the go that gets you your serving of protein and smart carbs.
Ingredients
  • 1 cup milk of your choice, or milk alternative, or water. Really we just need a liquid here.
  • 1/2 cup of quick rolling oats.
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt.
  • 1 banana.
  • 2 cups frozen mixed berries.
  • 1 tablespoon sunbutter
Instructions
  1. Add everything into the blender.
  2. Blend until smooth, pour, and drink!
