It’s travel season and whether you’re traveling for work or play it’s helpful to keep at least some of your FitLife routine.
I’m all for enjoying on a trip especially if it’s for play. We need rest and relaxation so that we can keep kicking ass at life.
I’m all about making fitness fit into your life and not the other way around. So to me that means still taking care of yourself while traveling. If traveling is a regular thing, these tips will help you too because I’m going to show you how to keep exercising while traveling. Now you won’t have to use traveling for work as a reason to not be your healthiest self anymore.
Exercise comes in many different forms, and opportunity to exercise is all around us.
Exercise is repetitive and structured movement done for a certain amount of time. Whether or not you have a gym, I’ll show you how to get your exercise in.
Pack resistance bands. I like these ones because they have different resistance levels and come in a small bag to carry all of them. Plus they’re pretty inexpensive. You can get in a total body workout with just resistance bands.
Turn your hotel into a gym. You don’t need a lot of space to get in a good workout. You can use your suitcase for weight to do rows, shoulder press, weighted lunges, and squats. You can use the bed for step ups and the desk chair for dips. Add those resistance bands from above and you’ll be getting an extra boost in your workout. Another option is to start staying at Hilton, which is now creating rooms with fitness equipment in them!
Treat your day like you would if you’re at home. If you normally get up and workout in the morning, keep the habit going while you’re away. If you’re on a work trip and normally workout in the evening, keep the habit. If you have to cut your workout short, do it. If you workout in the evening but are on vacation, consider getting in a quick workout after sleeping in but before starting your day.
Walk as much as you can. Select your hotel or Airbnb near most things (restaurants, grocery stores, events, etc) so that you can walk instead of drive. Walking is a great form of exercise and every little bit of it counts.
With a little bit of strategy you can start or continue exercising while traveling. When fitness fits into your lifestyle, it works better and becomes a habit. Something you feel like you’re missing when you don’t do it.
How will you start or keep your exercise routine going while traveling? Let me know in the comments.

These are so great! I’ve been traveling a lot this year and while I can sometimes make it to the hotel gym, work travel is especially difficult to manage with hotel gym hours (and not wanting to be there late at night on my own, if the gym is open all day). I never considered an in-room workout. Thanks!

Yes, you can get a good workout in your hotel room to keep the habit going. I do love that you are making exercise part of your traveling.
